A couple of members of the Dwarf Fortress forums (http://www.bay12games.com/) were inquiring about how to utilize overland resources and mana nodes. After going back and testing resource sites, such as Farms, Mines & Vineyards, and the process of binding Mana Nodes, I found some bugs breaking the functionality. These are now fixed and a few improvements made.
The following sites can be built: Farms, Mine, Vineyard, Quarry, Shrine, Hunters’ Lodge and Outpost. Some require various skills from the workers in order to be available, and others require a resources or tech. I have added research unlocks for Mine, Quarry and Hunters’ Lodge in order to make them more available. Right-click on a hex to see if something can be built there. Generally you need to control a site (a city, fortress, wizard tower, etc.) in a province to be able to build there. This “zone of control” is not visible at the moment, so the only way to find out is to right-click and see if it is possible. I will try and find a suitable way to toggle this zone on/off on the map, to make planning easier and less annoying.
Mana Nodes can be bound by a wizard and harvested for a steady flow of mana every turn. This requires researching mana nodes, and sending an army to the hex. Right-click on the hex and select “Bind Mana Node”.
So this was a bug fix build, but more AI/diplomacy/espionage stuff is still in the pipeline.
