Hope everyone made through halloween in one piece. Here’s a small hint of what is, among other things, in tomorrow’s update:

The new wizard tower mechanics are taking shape, and the first iteration is ready. You can now build various expansions at the tower, and upgrade it to have more slots, etc. The new research system is also coming along nicely, but there is no UI for it yet, so I have enabled all expansions regardless of research requirements. Next patch should have the research UI in it, and expanded tower mechanics – which will affect spells, regiment recruitment, resource management, and followers. I’ll also change it so the wizard only has one follower initially – and the others can be recruited as the tower and empire expands.
Taking on an apprentice will be made as more of a story/questline, where eventually you can risk the apprentice turning against you or setting off on some foolish quest.
You might also have noticed that there are ruins in the world at the moment. The seeding of ruins and ancient empires should also be back soon.

More UI work done. Followers have portraits now, and the follower/task UI has been overhauled. There is still a bit of usability work remaining for it, but it is fully functional. I have also reskinned more windows, and added more spell icons. A lot more names have been added to the name generator.
The follower portraits are a mix of home-cooked assets, some purchased in the Unity Asset Store, and some by Justin Nichols, who made some a nice kickstarter for some nice Creative Commons assets. They were primarily made for usage in the Flare project, but since they are Creative Commons and look very nice indeed, I decided to use them for some of the portraits. There is also some classic art in there which is also under Creative Commons.

A few follower portraits (there is about a hundred different ones, at the moment, but there needs to be a couple hundreds more added):
